Looking Glass Falls

One of the most popular destinations in the state, Looking Glass Falls is home to a magnificent 60-foot waterfall and is easily reached without too much of a hike. It gets its name from Looking Glass Rock which freezes in winter and creates a reflective surface, making it look like a mirror or looking glass when viewed from afar. It can get quite busy, especially on hot days, but is well worth the trip as it’s one of the best swimming holes around!

Sliding Rock

Take a ride down nature’s waterslide at Sliding Rock Falls and have some fun in the sun at one of North Carolina’s most unique attractions. Visit this stunning natural formation amongst the lush greenery of Pisgah National Forest and make your trip that much more memorable. The line up to the top can get a little long on the weekend, so we recommend visiting during the week if you can.

Hooker Falls at DuPont State Recreational Forest

Though only 12 feet tall, the main draw of Hooker Falls isn’t actually the waterfall itself, but the pool below it. Much larger than any of the other swimming holes near Asheville, there’s always plenty of room, even on busy days. You can sit on the adjacent rocks and sunbathe, splash around in the shallows, or even swim some laps! You could easily spend hours here with additional falls to visit back along the trail and only a few miles away.

Skinny Dip Falls

Just a short ¾-mile hike from Blue Ridge Parkway is Skinny Dip Falls, the perfect hangout spot with beautiful clear water. Take the plunge from the jumping rock into a deep pool and enjoy the shade of the trees overhanging the swimming area. It’s a wonderful place to camp out for a few hours, bring a picnic lunch, and relax on a hot summer day. There are also areas with shallow enough water to sit comfortably for those that want to sit back and soak.
